Summary: This publication charts the development of New Romney from its 8th-century origins, through medieval prosperity and into decline. Archaeological excavations revealed evidence of the medieval beachfront, its buildings and fishing industry and ultimately of the catastrophic storms that devastated the coastline during the 13th century. The archaeological remains and extensive finds assemblage are put into context by being set against a background of information from historical sources and archaeological investigation elsewhere within the town. .
