Fieldwalking, Earthwork Surveying & Metal-Detecting
The following is only a
brief summary,
this page will be updated in the near
future with further information, plots, plans etc.
Fieldwalking
During the winter months we undertake fieldwalking within the survey
area, to date we have located mnay new Prehistoric, Roman and
Saxon sites. Fieldwalking is undertaken using twenty metre squares
and aligned using the Ordnance Survey National Grid. Each twenty
metre square is twenty-five percent sampled. The results are then
recorded into a bespoke database written for the project which then
allows us to extract the data into MapInfo for plotting.
Earthwork Surveying
To date no
earthwork surveys have been conducted, however, with numerous well
preserved DMV's in the survey area, this is something that will
start during the summer 2006.
Metal-Detecting
We believe in the pro-active use of metal-detectors, every find, including all
Lead
on specific sites are recorded with a handheld GPS. These
finds are then recorded onto a database to allow us to extract the
information into MapInfo for plotting.
One of our main
aims with all non-intrusive archaeological survey is to overlay all
survey types, i.e. geophysical, fieldwalking, metal-detecting for
full
analysis
and comparison. |
