EAST ANGLIAN PREHISTORY
Conference in Memory of the Late John Wymer

Our knowledge and competence in the area of archaeological geophysics has grown from the commitment in supporting community and sponsored archaeological research projects in East Anglia. Michael de Bootman, the managing director of Heritage Marketing and Publications Ltd has been involved in landscape archaeology for over thirty years, his interest in the subject being spawned at the age of eight when he found a large Romano-British pottery kiln site on his father’s farm.

Heritage Marketing and Publications Ltd is a successful business based in rural West Norfolk providing archaeological and related institutions/societies with specialist publication, distribution, publishing and marketing services, together with specialist retailing of archaeological and historical publications. We are also a fast emerging academic publisher in our own right.

We are sponsoring what will probably grow into one of the largest geophysical archaeological landscape surveys ever to be conducted in Britain; the Nar Valley and its immediate hinterland in West Norfolk.

Over the last few years we have invested in some of the latest geophysical hardware/technologies together with top-end bespoke and specialist GIS/CAD software. This has harmonised well with our already extensive publishing and image manipulation packages. This investment has therefore allowed us to sponsor the Nar Valley project to an extremely high professional standard.

As a result of this investment, we are able to offer geophysical surveys to the commercial sector, an option that many developers are now using as part of the planning process. Whether it is an extension to a gravel quarry, development of new houses, a pipeline or road development, we can help. Surveys can range from a less than a hectare, to many hundreds of hectares.

A geophysical survey can enable a developer to adjust their planning application in light of probable archaeology, as well as indicate apparent areas devoid of archaeological features. This type of survey can also help the developer in consultation with the local planning authority to formulate a strategy on how to best satisfy the archaeological requirements to allow the planning application to proceed smoothly.

Because we do not just specialise in the area of archaeological geophysical surveys, we can offer some of the most competitive prices in the UK for fluxgate gradiometer surveys. Although we can also undertake resistivity and ground penetrating radar (GPR) as more target specific and focused techniques if required, although these are techniques we do not normally offer commercially. What We Can Offer You: -

Within the commercial archaeological sector Geophysical surveys are increasingly being seen as a high yield, low impact method of field assessment. With the expansion of all forms of remote surveying, and increased time constraints, few units can afford to be without access to these services. With this in mind Heritage Marketing and Publications Ltd, in conjunction with a number of commercial and non-commercial projects, have developed Heritage Surveys.

Heritage Surveys offers a full commercial geophysical service designed to meet the needs of all commercial archaeological contractors. Specifically established as a sub-contracting organisation Heritage Surveys can enable your organisation to offer services that were previously beyond its scope. In addition, with each survey tailored to the client’s individual requirements Heritage Surveys offers a highly cost effective solution for projects of all sizes. We can even help if you already have an existing geophysical capability, being able to ease your existing work-flow commitments when you need it, and giving you the freedom to explore further business opportunities.

Heritage Surveys utilizes the very latest technology combined with the traditional high quality customer services that have come to be expected from one of the UK’s leading archaeological publishers and distributors. All work carried out by us includes a full analytical report, both in bound paper format, a word and pdf file, all images and original data files, so that all the information can be seamlessly incorporated into the final report for the client. With prices starting from just £250 a hectare plus expenses you can be confident that Heritage Surveys offers a highly professional service at true value for money prices.
