During 2004 it was felt important to get a better understanding of the Roman roads in our research area. We identified an important crossing near Castle Acre, and due to the high probability that we could find organic material and preserved wood, a further excavation was conducted over two weeks in the Summer 2005.
In 2005 a further larger excavation was conducted that identified a causeway overlaying a probable earlier timber bridge.
This is an important site and further work on this and other Roman roads in our research area are scheduled for the Summer of 2006. The excavation was directed by John Shepherd.
